The Wii U Deluxe Black 32 GB is Nintendo’s first HD home console, pairing a tablet-style GamePad with a compact box that supports 1080p output. Collectors prize the set for its limited production run, the tactile second-screen controller, and the console’s role as a bridge between Nintendo’s past and its later Switch hybrid.
Inside the small black shell sits a custom PowerPC-based CPU and AMD Radeon-derived GPU. The 32 GB flash drive stores digital titles, while the GamePad’s 6.2-inch resistive screen streams video from the console or runs independent software. Four USB ports, NFC support, and an IR blaster round out the feature set.
The console’s catalog mixes HD remasters of earlier Nintendo franchises with new entries such as Super Mario 3D World and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s early development builds. Backward compatibility with most Wii discs and the eShop’s digital catalog expanded the available software.
Although commercial sales were modest, the Wii U introduced Nintendo’s second-screen philosophy and online account infrastructure that later appeared in the Switch. Its scarcity in pristine condition and the discontinuation of official repair support have elevated surviving Deluxe Black units among hardware archivists.
