A 2003 Game Boy Advance title that distilled arcade action into five-second bursts, WarioWare, Inc. launched the microgame genre and became a portable classic prized by collectors for its frenetic charm and scarcity in complete condition.
Players cycle through rapid-fire microgames—each lasting a few seconds—by pressing the correct button or tilting the GBA at the right moment. Success chains together longer runs, while failure resets the streak; Wario-themed story interludes and unlockable endless modes add variety.
Nintendo R&D1 assembled a small team to test how much gameplay could fit into seconds-long loops. The result was a cartridge packed with over 200 microgames, many built around GBA hardware quirks such as motion sensing and link-cable play.
Critics praised the game’s originality and humor, awarding it some of the highest GBA scores of 2003. Collectors now seek sealed copies and the limited-edition bundles that paired the cartridge with a themed GBA SP faceplate.
