Tracking retro game collection value
2026-09-09
Collection value is a useful number and a bad personality. You want enough signal to know if the pile is drifting, not a daily score that ruins the hobby.
On RetroStronghold, value starts with the copies you log — platform, title, condition — then live loose, CIB, and sealed prices on each row. That is a check, not a sale. Sold comps, local demand, and whether the label is mint all still matter when you actually trade.
Log condition first
Loose, CIB, and sealed are different animals. If everything is marked loose because that was faster, your total will lie. Fix the condition field before you stare at the sum.
Paid price vs live price
What you paid is history. The live number is a market snapshot. Keeping both on the item makes “am I up or down on this cart?” a glance instead of a scavenger hunt through old receipts.
When the total moves
Day-to-day wiggles are noise. Bigger swings on a platform you care about are worth a look — today’s movers on the Index is one place to see which titles jumped. Your total collection value and each group’s total are free on the dashboard. For daily repricing, a chart of the shelf over time, bulk reprice, and watch-list email, that is what Membership is for.
None of this is financial advice. It is inventory hygiene for people who already own too many cartridges.
Browse the Index, or start a free collection and check prices on the games you actually have.
